AP Librae: The Extended Jet as the Source of VHE Emission?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The LBL AP Librae has been detected in the TeV gamma-ray range, which is unexpected for this kind of blazar. The broad-band SED cannot be explained by a one-zone model, and especially fails in the TeV domain. An extended jet has been detected on arcsec scales both in radio and X-ray frequencies. The spectral index of the X-ray band indicates an inverse Compton origin. Using an IC/CMB model, the TeV emission can be successfully modeled as originating in the extended jet. Several arguments in favor of this model, as well as observational tests, will be presented. The observations suggest that acceleration of particles to very high energies is still efficient at large distances from the core.

The Extended Jet In AP Librae As The Source Of The VHE γ-ray Emission
Most modeling attempts of blazars use a small emission zone located close to the central black hole in order to explain the broad-band spectral energy distribution. Here we present a case where additionally to the small region a >kpc-scale jet is required to successfully reproduce the spectrum and especially the TeV emission, namely the low-frequeny peaked BL Lac object AP Librae detected in th...

The Very High Energy (VHE) γ-ray emission of the closest BL Lacertæ objects Markarian 501 and Markarian 421 has been observed by the CAT telescope in 1997 and 1998. In 1997 Mrk 501 exhibited a remarkable series of flares, with a VHE emission peaking above 250 GeV. The source showed correlated emissions in the X-ray and VHE γ-ray bands, together with intensityspectral hardness correlation in the...

The Major Atmospheric Gamma-Ray Imaging Cherenkov Telescope very high energy (VHE) γ -ray astronomy collaboration recently reported the detection of the quasar 3C279 at > 100 GeV γ -ray energies. Here, we present simultaneous optical (BVRI) and X-ray (RXTE PCA) data from the day of the VHE detection and discuss the implications of the snapshot spectral energy distribution for jet models of blaz...
متن کاملVHE γ-rays From Extragalactic Large Scale Jets
We discuss production of very high energy (VHE) γ-rays in large scale extragalactic jets of FR I sources. Based on recent optical and X-ray observations of these objects we evaluate their VHE emission in a framework of one electron population model. We consider possibility for detection of the predicted radiation, which could provide important constraints on the jet structure and some hardly kn...
